YMCA temporarily closes services due to catastrophic fire danger on Tuesday 12 November 2019

Twelve YMCA NSW (The Y) services will be temporarily closed tomorrow to ensure the safety of staff, members and the broader community as bushfires threaten communities across the state.

The Y’s Camp Yarramundi, and Great Lakes, Manning and Wingham Aquatic Centres will be closed for the duration of Tuesday 12 November.
Streetgym at Mt Annan and Uplift at Taree will also be closed for the day, along with the Y’s Out of School Hours Care (OSHC) services at:
•    Biraban (Toronto)
•    Lisarow Public
•    Saint Marys (Warners Bay)
•    Springwood Primary
•    St Joseph’s Primary, Charlestown
•    Kincumber Public
•    Wamberal Public.
The closures are in response to the NSW Fire Service’s ‘catastrophic’ fire rating for the Greater Sydney and Greater Hunter areas on Tuesday, November 12. As at Monday 3.30pm, there were 75 bushfires burning across NSW.

Susannah Le Bron, Chief Executive of the Y said the safety of staff, volunteers, members and the community was paramount.

“Nothing is more important than the safety of our hardworking staff and all of our members within affected communities tomorrow and throughout summer,” she said.

“At this stage centres are expected to reopen on Wednesday 13 November, but I encourage our members and families to monitor social media and our website for any changes.”
